Title I

A.B. Consentino Middle School is a Title 1 School. Visit the Overview of Title I page for more information.

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Colleagues,

This is to notify you that our school is a Title I School wide Program school. School wide Title I programming allows our school to use Title I funds to provide a range of services to support improving achievement for all students in academics and social, emotional or behavioral learning. We encourage all families to work in partnership with their child’s teacher(s) to ensure their student’s success!

WHAT IS TITLE I?

Title I is the largest federally funded program in education. Signed into law in 1965 by President Lyndon Johnson, Title I was designed to help students experiencing reading difficulties by providing support. Since it began, Title I has undergone various changes, but continues to provide help for students experiencing academic difficulty. The Mass. Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education awards supplemental funds that are then distributed to schools/districts based on a formula for economically disadvantaged families in our school and community. Our school uses Title I funds to ensure that all students, particularly those who are struggling academically, receive the additional reading and math supports, or supports in developing key learning skills in order to grow and to meet or exceed high academic standards.

HOW CAN FAMILIES HELP THEIR CHILDREN?

  • Encourage your student to follow a nightly routine for homework. For younger students, also help with packing their backpack for the next day.
  • Encourage your child to read every day. With younger students, read to and with your child every day.
  • Listen to your child read to you.
  • Does your child have a Public Library card (it’s free!)? Visit the Public Library to get a library card, borrow books or other media and participate in Library programs.
  • Encourage your child to share what interests them at school each day. For younger students, help your child use words to describe what he/she sees, thinks and feels about learning.
  • Provide support for positive, productive and appropriate use of and time on digital media.
  • For younger students, encourage your student to write at home – notes to others, letters and cards, stories, shopping lists, and messages. Practice counting with your child by 1’s, 10’s, 5’s, 2’s, 3’s, etc. and practice math facts with your child.
  • Communicate with your child’s teachers regularly/monthly. Attend scheduled conferences with your child’s teachers. Visit your child’s school and classroom.
  • Help your child plan how he/she will do the job successfully as a learner, and then celebrate a job well done!

HOW CAN PARENTS HELP THEIR SCHOOL AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

school’s front office for details at (978) 374-5775 or myself at eileen.doherty@haverhill-ps.org

SAVE THE DATE!  PLEASE JOIN US TO HEAR ABOUT TITLE I!
