Dear Consentino staff, students, and families,

After careful reflection and deliberation, and with full awareness of the critical time ahead—including the construction and opening of the new school building—we recognize that this moment calls for a leader with deep experience in school leadership and a strong understanding of Haverhill Public Schools. We are pleased to announce that Ms. Doherty, Principal of Dr. Paul Nettle Middle School, has enthusiastically accepted the opportunity to serve as the next principal of A.B. Consentino Middle School.

Ms. Doherty’s journey into education began in an unexpected but inspiring way. Originally a lawyer, she discovered her passion for education while volunteering at her children’s school. Since then, she has built an impressive career as a middle school math teacher, coach, data coordinator, assistant principal, and, most recently, the principal of Nettle School. With her wealth of experience and a strong vision for academic excellence and school culture, we are confident that she will lead Consentino into its next exciting chapter.

This transition in leadership comes as Dr. Poor has officially accepted another position, and Assistant Principal Mr. Mele has announced his retirement. Their years of dedicated service to Consentino Middle School and Haverhill Public Schools have left a lasting impact. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and families. Their leadership and dedication have shaped our school community, and they will be greatly missed.

While change can be challenging, we are fortunate to have Ms. Amy Maldonado continuing in her leadership role as assistant principal at Consentino. Her experience and dedication will provide stability and continuity during this transition.

Over the next three months, Dr. Poor and Ms. Doherty will work closely together to ensure a smooth transition. Ms. Doherty will visit Consentino on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 2:40 p.m. to meet with any staff who would like to introduce themselves. In the coming weeks, we will also plan community events to welcome her and provide opportunities for further engagement.

We recognize that this transition will also bring change to the Nettle School community. However, we are confident that the strong foundation Ms. Doherty has built there will ensure continued success under new leadership. The middle school leadership position for Dr. Paul Nettle Middle School will be posted soon.

Thank you for your dedication and commitment to the students and families of Consentino Middle School. Your support during this transition is invaluable, and we look forward to working together as we continue to build a thriving school community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Margaret Marotta
Superintendent of Schools
